- Positive Reputation

- Knowledgeable Customer Service Team
- Mobile-Friendly Platform
Positive Reputation
One of the first things we look at when we find an online Oregon poker site is its reputation. We spend hours reading user reviews on the site to make sure there aren’t any concerns that need to be brought to our attention. We also look to see if the sites in question have any lawsuits against them. We only recommend real money poker sites that have a proven track record of treating their players well.
Access to Major Poker Tournaments
Having access to major tournaments like the World Series of Poker or the World Poker Tour significantly increases the potential amount of money you can earn while playing online poker in Oregon.
The OR online poker sites that we recommend often offer smaller tournaments where the winner will receive an entree into those well-renowned ones.
Without access to those bigger tournaments, the amount of money you can win online is substantially less. That’s why we check to make sure the Oregon online poker websites we recommend provide this opportunity for you.
Real Money Bonuses and VIP Programs
We love to play online poker in Oregon for real money, but we don’t want to spend more money than we have to on it. That’s why regular bonuses in the form of free playing credits are so vital to us. Bonuses that generate extra playing funds often allow us to stretch our bankroll and play more often.
VIP programs provide an excellent way to get more bang for your buck. They typically work by giving players points for every game they play or for every dollar they spend. These points can then be exchanged for tangible prizes like electronics, appliances, or vacations.
Knowledgeable Customer Service Team
While playing at online Oregon poker sites, you’ll probably have some questions that need answered. You may even need help if you experience an issue with a game or have a concern about banking. That’s why a knowledgeable customer service team is so helpful.
Customer service agents that know the ins and outs of the real money OR poker sites you’re playing at will only enhance your experience. It’s also beneficial if sites are available 24/7 and have a quick response time, which most of our recommendations are known for.
Mobile-Friendly Poker Apps
While we used to consider having a mobile-friendly platform as just a nice perk, we now view it as necessary. We play real money online poker on our phones so often that we couldn’t imagine going without it.
OR poker sites that fail to provide a full suite of poker games on mobile won’t make our list. We need to see a variety of games available, and those games need to have a high-quality user interface. It’s also nice when mobile sites can be accessed from a web browser to not use the memory on our phone for an app.
Why Poker Is Becoming Popular in Oregon
Gambling in Oregon became legal in the 1970s. At first, only charitable gambling was allowed, but a few years later, social gambling was legalized. The gambling industry’s growth took its time to expand across the state, as nearly 20 years passed before Oregon got its first brick and mortar casino.
After the Cow Creek Tribe opened its first casino in 1994, poker tournaments started taking place in the state for the first time. This is when people’s love of the game really started to explode. People from all over Oregon would travel to participate in these games.
Flash forward to the current day and age where everything is digitalized. While Oregon does have more land-based casinos than it used to, people are starting to enjoy real money Oregon poker sites even more.
We only expect to see online poker in Oregon become more relevant as time goes on. It’s hard to beat the convenience and safety of playing from your own home.

Play at Reputable Oregon Online Poker Rooms

Budget Like Your Life Depends on It
Another important step you can take to have a safe experience while playing at Oregon poker sites for money is to create an appropriate spending budget. Make sure your budget only includes extra funds; it should not take away from the funds you need to pay your bills.
It’s also vital that you stick to your budget when playing real money online poker. This will prevent you from overspending and encourage you to make the most out of the gambling funds you have. It may not seem possible, but you can build your gambling skills on a budget.
Create a Unique Username and Password
We cannot stress enough the importance of creating a strong, unique username and password. Your log-in details should be used specifically for the Oregon poker sites you are playing at and nothing else. It’s considered best practice to use a mix of letters, numbers, and special symbols to make it difficult to guess.
Be Willing to Ask Questions
You are almost certainly going to have some questions when playing at real money Oregon poker sites for the first time. It’s important to get those questions answered immediately and avoid leaving anything up to chance. Tips for Picking the Best Oregon Poker Sites
- Know what games you want to play. There are so many poker variants to choose from nowadays. Some real money poker sites offer more of the mainstream variants like Texas Hold’em and Omaha, while others offer rare variants like Pineapple or Chinese Poker. Check to make sure the poker site you sign up with has all of the games that pique your interest.
- Try out the games at no cost. Another excellent tip for choosing the best Oregon poker sites is to try out their games for free! Luckily, the best Oregon online poker rooms have free play options for their top games. Playing in free play mode will allow you to see how they set up their games and how smooth their gameplay style is.
- Evaluate their banking options. You should also consider checking out the banking options available at the money poker sites you want to create an account with. They should have their complete list of deposit and withdrawal methods posted to their site. Look over both of them, as some options that are available for deposits won’t be available for withdrawals and vice versa.
- Sign up at multiple sites. Okay, so hear us out here! Do some OR poker sites have better bonuses than others? Of course! Do some have a better selection of poker variants to choose from? Obviously! By signing up at multiple accounts, you’ll have the chance to take advantage of the best qualities of each one.

More on those below.
Home Poker Games Are Perfectly Fine
Want to host a poker game in Oregon? Play in one, perhaps?
According to Oregon law that is more than okay.
Section 167.117(21) defines “social game” as (a) A game, other than a lottery, between players in a private home where no house player, house bank or house odds exist and there is no house income from the operation of the social game; and (b) If authorized pursuant to ORS 167.121, a game, other than a lottery, between players in a private business, private club or place of public accommodation where no house player, house bank or house odds exist and there is no house income from the operation of the social game.
The bottom line is this – you cannot rake the pot or charge people to play. Other than that, you’re okay to play.
The state also allows cities and towns to regulate and license social poker games via private businesses or labeling them as ‘poker clubs.’
Section 167.121 empowers counties and cities to authorize, regulate and license social games in private businesses, private clubs or in places of public accommodation.
From what I understand the same rules apply to clubs. I’ve been to a couple in Portland and they primarily make their money from selling food and beverages.
Online Poker in Oregon
Online poker (for poker players) isn’t covered by Oregon’s laws. So, by default, it is illegal.
However, they’re nothing like their neighbor to the north – Washington. Meaning, it’s not a felony to play online.
It’s possible to play online at offshore sites and get away with it. Just know there’s always a risk taking that path. You want to be sure to choose a legit site and only keep what you need to play online.
In addition, Oregon law does cover internet operators, meaning it is a Class C felony to operate an internet gambling business where you knowingly accept payments for unlawful gambling.
Live Poker Options for Oregon Players
Online poker might be a bust, but live casino poker isn’t. There are TONS of casinos in the state and many of them spread poker games.
Here are some suggestions to get you started.
- Wildhorse Resort & Casino – They run tournaments and cash games. Their cash games offer a bad beat jackpot, a no flop, no drop policy, and a max $3 rake on hands that do see a flop.
- Spirit Mountain Casino – Their poker room offers cash games, plenty of tournaments and a high hand promotion. What’s even more unique is their online casino – here you can play free slots and table games. They even have a mobile casino.
- Three Rivers Casino & Hotel – They offer tournaments and cash games – with a bad beat jackpot.
And that’s just the first three casinos I found on Google.
With a quick Google search you’ll find plenty of options (especially near the coast).
Oregon’s Future on iGaming
Experts think we’ll see legislation passed in 2017 or 2018.
Depending on which states legalize poker next, Oregon could be a very interesting state to watch in relation to this.
The fact that Oregon already allows live poker in casinos, home poker games and poker clubs makes players here that much more optimistic about possibly getting online poker legalized some day soon.
