The Green Lantern is fictional Superhero from DC Comics, which has entertained multiple generations of comic book readers. In 2011 he appeared in a blockbuster movie about about himself, starring Ryan Reynolds. It would be little surprise to readers of this site that the Green Lantern story has also been transformed into an online slot game. The developer of the Green Lantern online video slot is NextGen Gaming, although they really revamped an earlier version created by a different company called Cryptologic. This particular slot game is focused on the comic book character, rather than the movie and has a slightly more retro style to it.

Green Lantern Slot is based upon the old 1940 superhero characters created by Alan Scott who have rings to grant them extraordinary powers to fight evil with. It has a DC Comics license and oddly there are two developers with the game. The original by Cryptologic/Amaya was very popular and revamped by Nextgen and to date is the most widespread version of the game, although Playtech have recently released a movie-based 243-way version of it. The original though is the slot purists’ favourite and mine too, with some great features!
Good and Evil
There are 50 paying lines of good here on Green Lantern Slot but we do get a difference in RTP if we don’t use the ‘Bonus Bet’ as without it you see 92.35% and with 95.34%, so a significant 3% difference. It is typically stated as 95.34%, but heed my warning about this drop of 3% when you don’t take the Bonus Bet. The stake though only rises from 50 coins to 60 and for that we get an extra ‘Ring Bonus’ feature made available when three or more appear in view and a battle ensues, ultimately awarding up to 100x your bet in returns on top of the scatter pay when you trigger it. In both modes we can trigger some free games which we’ll come to later, but the all-important pays range from 200x bet for a 5-of-a-kind villain to 3x for the lowest card value.
Green Wilds
You get stacked Wilds in the form of the Green Lantern logo on reels 2 and 4 and these can fill all 4 rows of those reels. Now there is a very important Lantern scatter on reel 3 and should this appear when there are any Wild(s) on both reels 2 and 4 you will trigger a 24 free spins bonus. In the base game Wilds double wins, but in these free games they quadruple them and what’s more, each Lantern on reel 3 adds an extra Wild to the stacks on 2 and 4. You have a meter on the right to tell you how many Wilds high the stacks are at any given time. You cannot retrigger them but it’s a lengthy and entertaining bonus round! You cannot trigger the Rings Bonus either during the spins, if playing the Bonus Bet.

Green Lantern slot is still a classic despite not having the glossy and polished graphics of Playtech’s movie-based version, nor the real movie sequences that game offers. Crytologic are fondly remembered for their basic but highly playable character games, Superman and Batman being other examples back in the early days of Intercasino.
