Jonathan is a child of a bank teller and an airplane engine mechanic. From an early age, he was taught to respect the value of money, and at the age of 13 he landed his first job as a strawberry picker. After matriculating from a local high school, he continued his education at Montréal’s University of Quebec where he began studying Finance and Business Administration. During his junior year, Jonathan was introduced to poker and began playing on a regular basis with his friends. What began as a hobby, nowadays is Jonathan Duhamel’s full time occupation which has brought him considerable wealth.
Becoming more passionate about poker playing, he decided to abandon his studies after only two semesters to play poker full time. In 2008, Duhamel had his first success on the professional poker scene, when at the main event of the European Poker Tour’s (EPT) No-Limit Hold’em, in 10th place he won more than $50,000, which provided the basis for Jonathan Duhamel’s current net worth.
Following this success, Jonathan spent the next two years honing his skills and gathering experience by playing in casinos across Canada, steadily building up his net worth. Being promising player, he soon “caught the eye” of PokerStars who offered him sponsorship deal. The big breakthrough in Duhamel’s poker career occurred in 2010 when after a head-to-head game versus John Racer at the WSOP’s Main Event, he collected the staggering sum of $8,944,310, which of course dramatically increased the total of Duhamel’s wealth.
In 2011, Duhamel won EPT’s High Roller Event, walking away with $272,209, while in 2012 at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure events he collected almost $1.2 million. Then at London’s Premier League Poker VI event in 2013, his 3rd place won him $125,000. All these achievements helped Jonathan to significantly boost his net worth.
The year of 2015 was successful for Jonathan too, as in June he won the WSOP’s $111,111 No-Limit Hold’em for One Drop event, collecting $3,989,985, while in October he conquered WSOP’s Event 26 – No-Limit Hold’em High Roller event, winning $634,550 in prize money. Certainly all these successful ventures have had a huge impact on Jonathan Duhamel’s wealth.
However, being wealthy has its own drawbacks – in late 2011, Duhamel was a victim of a home invasion, robbery and beating as three masked man broke into his house, molested him and took away $150,000 in cash and his Rolex wristwatch. As it was later revealed, the mastermind behind this criminal act was Duhamel’s ex girlfriend Bianca Rojas-Latraverse, who was later taken into custody and imprisoned for 3.5 years; her “associates” faced the same destiny. The police had managed to recover about half of the stolen sum.
In his personal life, there is no current information about romantic liaisons of Jonathan Duhamel. He is an avid fan of the Montréal Canadiens hockey team, but a philanthropist too – after his success in 2010, he donated $100,000 to its Children’s Foundation.
